For this month’s Excellence in Action, we are proud to share the work of The Animal Aider Project, Ghana. The Animal Aider Project is a Ghana-based veterinary non-profit organization that focuses on advancing animal health, welfare, and public health by controlling animal-borne diseases, particularly rabies, through community outreach and education.
Through Excellence in Action, Champions in Action, and Data in Action, GARC shows that empowerment begins when knowledge, community, and data come together.
This World Rabies Day, the call to “Act Now: You, Me, Community” was put into practice in Algeria. Through a collaborative initiative that united international expertise and local leadership, GARC facilitated a Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE) workshop.
With the theme “Act Now: You, Me, Community,” GARC proudly joined various community activities across the Philippines to celebrate World Rabies Day this year. From schools to universities and local government offices, GARC worked with partners nationwide to spread the life-saving message that rabies is 100% preventable!
For this month’s Excellence in Action, we want to share the work of Mara North Conservancy Rabies Project (MNCRP), Kenya. In Mara North Conservancy, dogs play a critical role in protecting Maasai families and their grazing herds from the large carnivores living on the Mara. When dogs are not vaccinated against rabies, they can expose wildlife, livestock, humans, and other dogs to rabies. By protecting dogs and keeping them rabies-free, the MNCRP helps to preserve the fragile health of the entire Maasai Mara ecosystem.
We are excited to introduce you to this month’s Featured Platform User, Amici Cannis in Ecuador. Amici Cannis is also our first Rabies Center of Excellence in South America. Their mission is to protect and improve the lives of animals in Cotacachi and surrounding indigenous villages. Their team provides high-quality veterinary services to stray dogs and cats, companion animals with owners, and those who cannot afford treatment.
For October’s edition, we are proud to introduce you to Wadzanayi from Zimbabwe. She is doing her best to help eliminate rabies and improve dog welfare in Zimbabwe. We asked about how her own rabies journey started and some of the biggest challenges she faces working within her community.
