Following the success of our Behind the Bark webinar series, earlies this year, we are excited to announce the launch of our latest webinar series. “Behind the Wag”, will be a two-webinar series to explore the key themes from our Dog Welfare Certificate. 

The webinars will focus on practical dog welfare principles that you will be able to apply in resource-limited settings. Whether you are working in the field, supporting community programs, or simply passionate about improving dog welfare, these sessions will provide you with some of the useful insights and a real-world context.

Each webinar will include a 30-minute Q&A session, with veterinarians Dr Kavosa Mudoga and Dr Elaine Ong. They will share their on-the-ground experiences from Africa and Asia respectively, as well as answer any questions you might have. 

 

Meet Dr Kavosa Mudoga 

Dr Kavosa Mudoga is the Director of Animals in Communities at Action for Protection of Animals Africa (APAA). With over 20 years of experience in local and international organizations, she leads humane dog population management initiatives that address rabies, dog populations, and public health through a One Health approach. She has collaborated with key partners including the Zoonotic Disease Unit (Kenya), AU-IBAR, WHO, WOAH, FAO, and GARC, and contributed to the WHO Expert Consultation on Rabies (Third Report) and the Pan-African Rabies Control Network (PARACON). She has worked across several countries in Africa, with additional experience in disaster management, wildlife, and community development. 

 

Meet Dr Elaine Ong 

Dr Elaine Ong graduated in Veterinary Science from the University of Melbourne in 1987 and went on to own and lead Balwyn Central Veterinary Hospital from 1995 to 2023. She has achieved ASAVA accreditation as a Hospital of Excellence and served as principal veterinary surgeon for Guide Dogs Victoria for 16 years. Dr Elaine Ong has volunteered for animal welfare projects internationally in Bali, Sri Lanka, China. She has also done disaster-response work in Australia. She founded the volunteer organisation Vets for Compassion and works pro bono as its CEO; she is also one of only 12 volunteer “macropod darters” in Victoria, responding to injured native animals. She has been recognised for her service with the Belle Reid Medal (2009) and the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2023.
