
World Rabies Day Celebrated with Vocational Training, Free Veterinary Treatment, and Rabies Day Discussion in Naogaon, Bangladesh
On September 28th, at Shah Agricultural Information Library, Manda, Naogaon, a program was organized to mark World Rabies Day, hosted by Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) and Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central, District 64, Bangladesh, with support from Peertop Limited, Dhaka. The event focused on three main aspects: vocational training on rabies prevention, free veterinary treatment, and a discussion on World Rabies Day.
The program was presided over by Rotarian Shiuli Hasan, President of the Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central. It was conducted under the leadership of Rotarian Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam Arif, Immediate Past President (IPP) of Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central and General Secretary of Bangladesh Livestock Society. The event's chief guest was Rotarian Professor Dr. Md. Jalal Uddin Sarder, the founding Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Rajshahi University and President of Bangladesh Livestock Society.
Special guests included Dr. Syed Mostofa Ali, Managing Director of Peertop Limited, Dhaka, and Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque. Other esteemed attendees were Md. Abdul Hannan, Officer-in-Charge of Mohanpur Thana, Rajshahi, Md. Jahangir Alam Shah, Founder of Shah Agricultural Information Library, Dr. Tahsina Shamim Tasu, Chairperson of RMB Hospital and Gynecology Specialist, Md. Bappi Hasan, Director of Rajshahi General Hospital, Md. Babul Hossain, Teacher at Khorkhori Girls School, Agriculturist Md. Masudul Azad Pintu, and other local dignitaries.
During the World Rabies Day discussion, Chief Guest Professor Dr. Md. Jalal Uddin Sarder highlighted that "Rabies is a severe public health issue in developing countries, and concerted efforts are essential to eliminate this threat." Special guest Dr. Syed Mostofa Ali emphasized that "A major challenge to rabies eradication is the lack of international collaboration. Integrated efforts across nations are crucial to reducing the spread of this deadly disease."
Rotarian Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam further added, "World Rabies Day, celebrated on September 28th annually, focuses this year on the theme 'Rabies: Breaking Barriers.' The goal is to address the obstacles to eliminating rabies, a preventable disease. Global collaboration, proper resource utilization, and increased public awareness are key to controlling rabies."
The program included training for around 60 farmers on poultry, cattle, and goat rearing, alongside the provision of free veterinary treatment for approximately 250 animals.
