What rabies elimination work do you do?
Timor-Leste had long remained free of dog-mediated rabies until a 2023 outbreak in neighboring Indonesia prompted urgent preparedness and response efforts. Under the leadership of Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Joanita Jong, the Veterinary Services of Timor-Leste acted swiftly to slow the spread of rabies into the country. In recognition of her outstanding leadership, Dr. Jong has been nominated for a World Rabies Day award by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
