For World Rabies Day 2025, WECare Worldwide, the charity behind Sri Lanka’s only Veterinary Hospital dedicated to street dogs, is taking to the streets with Ride Against Rabies, our biggest rabies mission yet. Fleets of tuk-tuks and teams of vets will fan out across communities with a bold target: vaccinate 100s of dogs & cats in a single day!
With over three million street dogs in Sri Lanka, rabies remains a deadly threat. WECare Worldwide, which also runs a mobile CNVR program in the south, is joining forces with SCAP, under the banner of GARC’s END RABIES NOW initiative and supported by the World Health Organisation. Together, we’re turning World Rabies Day into real, measurable action—bringing life-saving vaccines directly to the dogs who need them most and moving closer to a rabies-free Sri Lanka.
Sponsored by Browns Veterinary Pharmaceuticals, this landmark effort will involve 50+ veterinary professionals from WECare Worldwide and ACAPSL (Association of Companion Animal Practitioners Sri Lanka). Teams will follow mapped routes, delivering vaccines across towns and villages.
More than a vaccination programme, this event is a statement: rabies is 100% preventable, yet still claims lives every year. Together, we’re proving that coordinated action can save lives and make communities safer for everyone.
