“Integrated Control and Elimination of Rabies in Ethiopia: Information Management Platform and Assessing the Factors Affecting the Implementation of the National Strategy”

The African One Health Universities Network (AFROHUN) Ethiopia, with USAID funding, has been conducting a research project on Rabies in the month of June, July, August and September 2023. The title of the project is on “Integrated Control and Elimination of Rabies in Ethiopia: designing an Information Management Platform (web and App development); and Assessing the Factors Affecting the Implementation of the National Strategy” which is designed through collaboration efforts of professionals from the Mekelle University, Jimma University, Addis Ababa University, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agriculture Organization-Ethiopia, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, and other stakeholders .

Three Students and 7 senior experts have been engaged in the work

The objectives of this work are to:

  • Identify Factors affecting the control and elimination of rabies in Ethiopia: Challenges, opportunities  and Strategic Recommendations
  • design an intersectoral communication and data sharing of rabies cases and their management in humans, domestic animals, and wildlife for an informed decision in strategic prevention and control
  • Embrace the One Health approach to rabies prevention, control, and eradication with collaboration across human, animal, and environmental sectors.

The research work is on concluding phase and, a validation workshop is arranged for September 29, 2023.
