Through this project, Act To Live aims to raise awareness among school-aged children about rabies, its risks, modes of transmission, and especially prevention methods. The project will extend to three regions of Cameroon: Centre, Littoral, and West. These regions were selected because they are rabies hotspots, accounting for a cumulative percentage of 36% across the country (AFROHUN Cameroon, 2024)—20% for Centre (the highest rate), 11% for Littoral, and 5% for West. Additionally, since 2018, there has been a growing population of stray dogs in these regions, which are key actors in rabies transmission, constituting a significant risk factor. We plan to engage around thirty veterinary clinics with the goal of reaching approximately 15,000 school-aged children.
